Man gets eight months for assault

 THE Boroko District Court has jailed a man for eight months for assault and for carrying an offensive weapon.

Eliot Gai, 23, from Bapmukuai village in Maprik, East Sepik, was charged with two counts of assault and with being in possession of an offensive weapon.

Magistrate Ernest Wilmot sentenced Gai to eight months for assault and eight months for being in possession of a weapon to be concurrently.

In another matter, Moses Roy Aresip, 25, from Kaiapit village, in Markham, Morobe, was fined K300 for resisting arrest at the Gerehu Police station on Jan 29.

Wilmot told Aresip to pay the fine that day or serve four months in jail.

Meanwhile in a similar matter, Jonathan Dama, 25, from Aiambe,Walium, in Madang, was charged with one count of using threatening words.

Wilmot fined Dama K200 or six months imprisonment.
