A MAN in Mt Hagen was found guilty of driving while drunk by the Mt Hagen District Court yesterday.
The court convicted Pepsi Wan, 36, from Mul-Baiyer in Western Highlands, yesterday.
Wan was arrested on Monday and charged under the Road Traffic Act and was released on police bail of K500.
Police alleged that Wan was driving a Toyota 10-seater land cruiser and sped towards St Paul’s Catholic church and made a dangerous U-turn and returned to the main market.
Police said a police unit witnessed the incident and followed him, stopped the vehicle at the crossing and took him to the police station.
Police told the court that Wan had two bottles of beer and four empty bottles in the vehicle.
Police also told the court that upon inspecting the vehicle, they discovered that the car’s registration had different information then that on the safety sticker.
The court was told that because the registration did not match the description of the vehicle, police believed that Wan was driving a stolen vehicle .
Wan told the court that the beer bottles were not his and that it had been left by others and that the vehicle had been hired.
