A MAN was seriously injured during a road accident on the “priority lane” at Waigani in Port Moresby yesterday.

Noks Tony from Tari, Southern Highlands, was struck by a vehicle at around 12.45pm just before the traffic lights at Waigani.

Tony was on his way home from church when the vehicle hit him while he was crossing the road.

Traffic officers and people manning the “priority lane” tried to stop the vehicle which disappeared towards the road to Tokarara.

The vehicle was not authorised to use the “priority lane” reserved for Pacific Games officials and athletes.

Tony was rushed to the Port Moresby General Hospital where he was attended to by nurse Freda Enna.

Enna confirmed that Tony suffered lacerations to the right of his head and arms but his blood pressure was normal. Tony has regained consciousness.

Enna said they would scan Tony to see that he did not have internal bleeding.

John Poto from Southern Highlands accompanied Tony to the hospital and contacted his relatives.

Poto said he was at the Waigani bus stop when he heard a loud bang. He said he felt it was his responsibility to keep Tony company at the hospital until his relatives arrived.
