Man in assault case told to apply for bail

A MAN charged with causing grievous bodily harm was told by the Lae Committal Court to apply for bail in the National Court.
Magistrate Pious Tapil told Jackson Moses, who is from Imbongu’s Kaupena, Southern Highlands, to submit a proper bail application with the National Court and adjourned hearing to July 21 to complete investigations.
Tapil told Moses that if police investigation revealed sufficient evidence, then the case would be committed to National Court for trial.
Moses was charged under Section 319 of the Papua New Guinea Criminal Code Act, Chapter 262.
The court heard that on Feb 8, the victim was consuming alcohol with his two friends at between 1am and 2am at 4-Mile in Lae.
Moses was sleeping in his room in a rented house where the victim and his friends where drinking.
Later, one of them went to sleep and the other went looking for cigarettes, leaving the victim alone listening to music.
Moses allegedly emerged from his room and kicked the victim on his right jaw.
According to the police report, the victim was later taken to the hospital for treatment where a medical report confirmed he had sustained a semi-permanent injury on his lower right jaw.
