Man in court over corruption
ROBERT Kennedy, who is charged with corruption, yesterday appeared before Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Danny Wakikura after Magistrate Tracy Ganaii recused herself from the case.
Magistrate Ganaii had dealt with Kennedy on another matter in which she struck out the case over insufficient evidence.
An affidavit by the investigator was filed in court as directed by Magistrate Ganaii last Friday confirming that investigations and the completion of police file was pending an audit report.
The case was adjourned to May 24 for instructions on the police file.
Kennedy’s K3,000 bail was also extended with conditions.
Kennedy, from Wabag’s Lupamanda village in Enga, was alleged to have, between Jan 1 and last Dec 22 at the migration headquarters, corruptly obtained services by hiring several motor vehicles for the benefit of himself in the discharge of the duties of his office.
It was alleged that he hired vehicles from Copress Ltd, Jubilee Rent A Car, Minrok Hire Cars, Ricks Hire Car, Kaiyum Hire Car Services, and Lakakit and Associates Lawyers all totalling K145,772.50.
All the hired vehicles were paid using the Kundu Pei system.
