The National, Friday 14th of March, 2014
A MAN appeared in court yesterday accused of raping a 14-year-old girl.
The man from Tapini, in Central, is alleged to have committed the offence in Port Moresby on Feb 16.
Magistrate Pinnison Pindipia remanded him in custody.
Police told the court that the girl was a mute and it was a serious case involving a minor which required that the accused be denied bail.
Pindipia upheld the police submission and adjourned the matter.
Pindipia had said earlier the purpose of the committal court was to screen and filter evidence to see if it was sufficient to refer the case for trial in the National Court.
