Man in jail for robbery

A 20-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with armed robbery following a mob attack on a person at the temporary bus stop at Unagi Oval in Gordon, Port Moresby, on Aug 30.
John Meme, from Kindeng village, Anglimp-South Waghi in Jiwaka, appeared at the Waigani Committal Court before Magistrate Ernest Wilmot for mention on Wednesday.
It was alleged that Meme, and some of his peers threatened Martin Bana with a knife at the Unagi Oval before taking his belongings.
Bana had just returned from work and was heading to the Unagi Oval bus stop to catch a bus home when he was allegedly confronted by Meme.
Meme had asked for K1 and when Bana refused to give him the money, the defendant had taken out a knife and threatened him with it.
Three other men took part in the robbery by restraining Bana.
Meme was also alleged to have stolen Bana’s mobile phone.
Meme was captured by police patrolling the area when he was trying to run from the scene.
Bana identified Meme to officers at the Gordon Police Station and he was charged with one count of armed robbery.
Meme appeared in court from custody and Magistrate Wilmot adjourned his case to today for mention.
