Man killed wife over incest quarrel

A 42-YEAR-old man from Motorena Island in Misima, Milne Bay province, allegedly murdered his wife after an argument over his alleged incestuous relationship with their 15-year-old daughter on Oct 11.
The man, believed to be a community health worker, was alleged to have struck his wife on the head with an iron rod, killing her instantly.
Provincial police commander Snr Insp Lincoln Gerari said yesterday that circumstantial evidence indicated that the husband had stripped off his dead wife’s clothes before placing her body in a bag and paddled out to sea between 2am and 3am on Oct 11, where he allegedly dumped the body.
He said witnesses had seen the husband paddling out to sea with a flashlight along with a bag, and return empty-handed later that morning in his canoe.
Snr Insp Gerari said police arrived at the crime scene immediately after they received reports of the incident and searched the premises but found no signs of the body, which continues to be missing.
He indicated that police did, however, strongly believe that the husband committed the crime and have arrested him.
Snr Insp Gerari added that the husband was liable to face two charges of wilful murder and incest.
