PENJORE Pilyo, 50, is from Makapmanda village in Wabag, Enga, and suffers from a serious problem with the main blood vessel to his heart.
Since September he has been admitted at the Wabag General Hospital and Mt Hagen General Hospital after suffering multiple cardiac arrests.
He was referred to Port Moresby General Hospital in October for verification and further treatment.
Doctors there diagnosed Pilyo with antero-septal myocardial infarction – a disease involving the coronary artery or main blood vessel leading to the heart.
The disease has severely affected the flow of blood to his heart and has left him bedridden for two months.
He was screened for other risk factors and results revealed that he had some dyslipidemia and slight glucose intolerance.
Although he was put on antibiotics, nothing much could be done to contain the ailment.
He experienced severe chest pains and was advised by his doctor to seek medical treatment overseas since there was no available treatment and expertise in the country.
His family contacted the Philippines Heart Centre in Manila and was told the cost of an operation and his stay there would be K100,000.
He is required to undergo a coronary artery bypass surgery, insertion of an intra-aortic balloon pump and 2D echocardiography.
Pilyo and his family, relatives are appealing to the general public, extended families, colleagues and friends to help him get the treatment in the Philippines.
