Man on murder charge over unpaid money in court

 A MAN charged with murdering another man for not paying back K1000 which he borrowed appeared in the Waigani Committal Court yesterday.

Magistrate Cosmas Bidar read the charge to Jack Kano, from Taimaro village in Laiagam, Enga, before adjourning his case to April 1.

The court heard that Kano and two his two friends allegedly bashed the deceased, Joel Alex, at Unagi Oval in National Capital District, on  Feb 1, and he died two days later in hospital. Kano asked Alex for the money but he did not give a good response so Kano and his friends started beating him.

When Alex ran into the field, they followed him and beat and kicked him.  Then they brought him to the Gordon Police Station where he was detained.

The next day Alex was released to seek medical treatment because he was vomiting and weak. He died in hospital the following day.
