LAE Lord Mayor Koim Trilu Leahy is warning people to be wary of a conman operating in the city.

He said the man is posing as the new Lae city manager and engaging groups and people in community projects with promise to pay later.

Leahy issued a warning to all residents, especially at the settlements, to be aware and not be fooled by the man. He said the only projects in the six wards of Lae that would be recognised were the ones authorised by ward councillors.

“There is someone going around and telling people and engaging them as the new city manager,” he said.

“This is very dangerous and we will try to find out who this is. The Lae city council or the Lord Mayor’s Office will not be responsible for any payment to groups that have been tricked,” he said.

“There should not be any contract work done in the wards without the knowledge and authorisation of the ward councillor.”
