POLICE have questioned a man at Lae Top Town police station in relation to the theft of more than K10,000 from a parked vehicle on Tuesday.

The incident is believed to have occurred early in the morning in front of a small fast food outlet at Lae’s main market area.

The vehicle belonged to Goroka-based businessman Steven Gorohia who is on a business trip in Lae.

Gorohia said the bag contained K10,500 in cash and two signed cheques issued to Agmark and TE PNG.

Lae police station confirmed that they were investigating the complaint.

According to Paul Thomas, who was with Gorohia, they were alerted by a girl and rushed outside to find two men wrestling in the car park.

They quickly overpowered one pointed out by the girl as one who had entered Gorohia’s vehicle.

Police later arrested the second man at a shop.

Thomas is concerned about what he described as Asian involvement with criminal elements in Lae city.

He said it was a serious problem which needed to be addressed by the provincial government and police in Lae.
