A MAN who severed a finger of a corpse was remanded at Buimo prison to await further police investigations.
Lae committal court Magistrate Pious Tapil described the case as serious as there were many allegations of sorcery in communities.
Magistrate Tapil told Napo Pogareo, 32, from Tarikagan village, Rai Coast in Madang, that he was charged with one count of misconduct with regards to a corpse and remanded him until Feb 4 for mention.
Police claimed that Pogareo committed the offence on Christmas Day at around 12.30pm at the Wampar Health Centre, Huon Gulf.
Police said Pogareo cut off the small finger from the left hand of a man’s body with a scissors.
The court heard that he took the finger to his house and placed it in a bottle. He told the police that he was very worried about the deceased person who was his best friend.
So he had to cut his finger so that his friend could feel the pain and come back to him and reveal the cause of his death.
