A MAN has been shot and later died after an armed hold-up in Port Moresby yesterday, police say.
The man, from Imbonggu, Southern Highlands, was rushed to the Port Moresby General Hospital after he was held up by several gunmen while driving out of the Westpac bank in Waigani at around 3.30pm.
NCD Met Supt Perou N’dranou said police were investigating the incident and appealed to anyone with information to assist them.
N’dranou said the victim was shot at close range and his vehicle taken with an unspecified amount of cash.
The badly wounded man was taken to the hospital but died sometime later.
N’dranou said a member of the gang who was left behind at the crime scene, held up a cab driver, stole his car and escaped.
The victim’s vehicle has not been recovered but the stolen cab was recovered later the same day at Hohola two. N’dranou said anyone with information relating to these crimes could contact the NCD Metropolitan crime hotline number 1800 100 at any time. He said all information given to police would be treated with confidentiality.
