A MAN was stabbed to death during a party at Saroa village, Rigo, Central, police said.
Provincial police commander Chief Supt John Maru said Bunu Joseph, 50, from Saroa was stabbed by a relative from the same village after a row.
The family was having a party when the relative smashed a beer bottle on a boy’s face.
The boy’s father reported the matter to police at Kwikila who then arrested him.
Maru said the relative’s family followed police to the station and demanded that the matter be solved outside the station.
Police who were outnumbered by the villagers released the man to them to have the matter resolved at the village.
About one hour later, police were told that Joseph had been stabbed with a knife by his relative after an argument.
Meanwhile, Maru said a 20-year-old man from Southern Highlands died instantly when was thrown off a moving vehicle when it hit a pothole around 4.30pm on Jan 25.
Stanford Hengene was among people traveling from Hula to Port Moresby in the vehicle when it hit a pothole.
In another incident, Maru said a man died when the vehicle he was traveling in overturned at Geakeve along the Magi Highway.
