Man suspected of murdering his infant son

A MAN killed his infant son by striking him on the head with a piece of wood last Thursday after an argument with his wife, police said.
The murder occurred in Pawai village, Pangia district, Southern Highlands province.
Highlands divisional police commander ACP Simon Kauba identified the father as Ikimel
Yango and the deceased as Isikel Ikimu.
ACP Kauba described the killing as inhumane.
“The father had no concern for his son by taking away his life,” he said.
He said that Pangia police arrested Yango last Saturday and charged him with wilful murder.
He is now behind bars at Ialibu police station.
He said that if the father was found guilty, he wanted the full force of the law to be applied.
“I can’t understand why a father decided to take the life of his son away when the deceased is innocent and did not know what was happening around him,” he said.
“Children need care, love and guidance from both their father and mother to grow up and become good citizens within their community,” ACP Kauba said.
