A COURT has sent a man charged with obtaining money by false pretences for trial in the National Court after establishing there was sufficient evidence against him.

Isaiah Guda, from Abau, in Central will trial on May 19.

Committal Court Magistrate Cosmas Bidar told Guda  that the committal court only examined evidence brought by the prosecutors to see if there was enough evidence to refer the matter to the higher court for a trial.

“The committal court has the power to discharge a case if evidence is seen to be insufficient. In this case, the court has considered the evidence thoroughly,” he said.

It was alleged that between July 20 and Aug 21, 2012, Guda withdrew K424,000 from the Moga ILC Incorporated account at Bank South Pacific.

He allegedly produced documents and with the help of a lawyer convinced bank officials and made six withdrawals.

“According to evidence, the lawyer who assisted you was paid K5,000 for his help. The court now rules that the evidence against you is sufficient so you are now committed to stand trial at the National Court.”
