A MAN has been ordered by the court to pay K600 in compensation to a woman whose pair of spectacles he broke in Mt Hagen.
District Court Magistrate Lydia Karre ordered Willie Gabriel, 40, to pay the money to Rose Paraka within three months or he would be sent to jail.
Magistrate ordered that Gabriel’s bail money of K100 be refunded and for him to find another K500 to pay Paraka.
The court was told that Gabriel broke Paraka’s pair of spectacles and assaulted her while she was with three friends on July 9 in Mt Hagen city.
When asked in court what she wanted Gabriel to do, Paraka said she wanted him to buy her a new pair and compensate her for her pain and suffering.
She told the court that she had given him enough time outside court to compensate her but he didn’t.
Meanwhile, a grade 12 student from a secondary school in Western Highlands was given a warning in court not to steal again after he admitted stealing a betel nut bag valued at K150 on Aug 16.
Karre told him that if she punished him, his education would be affected.
She allowed him to go free as he was a first offender but warned that he must not steal again.
