Man to stand trial for attempted murder
A MAN accused of attempted murder will stand trial after sufficient evidence was found against him by the Lae Committal Court.
Luke Paip, 27, from Tahawambo village in Finschhafen, Morobe, appeared before Magistrate Tera Dawai charged with the attempted murder of Yohan Tumuya with a bush knife last August.
Police tendered sufficient evidence to commit Paip to trial in the National Court.
Paip was remanded in Buimo jail and would apply for bail through a lawyer at the National Court.
Police alleged that the incident occurred on Aug 9, 2020, at around 10am at Ebabang, Burum Kuat local level government, Finschhafen.
Paip was alleged to have attacked Tumuya with a bush knife on the verandah of his (Tumuya’s) house.
Paip allegedly slashed Tumuya on his head, left shoulder and left hand, causing serious injuries.
Tumuya was air-lifted from the village to Lae and admitted at Angau Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Police said Paip had attacked Tumuya because he had been mistreating his (Tumuya’s) wife.
Police arrested Paip a few days later and took him to Gagidu Police Station where he was detained before being transferred to Lae where he was charged.
The case will return for mention on March 15, 2021, at the National Court.
