A MAN, 19, has been committed to stand trial in the Waigani National Court after he allegedly robbed a taxi driver at Makana, 9-Mile, Port Moresby.
Daniel David, from Henopi village in Tari, Hela, stood before Magistrate Cosmas Bidar at the Waigani Committal Court on Friday.
Bidar said there was sufficient evidence levelled against him to commit him to the National Court.
It was alleged that on Aug 5 last year, at around 1am, the victim, Steven Kam, a taxi driver, was parked in a queue outside the Armani Nightclub at Gordon.
David was accompanied by two men when they approached Kam and asked if they could be dropped off at Makana bus stop, 9-Mile.
When they arrived at Makana, the accused allegedly pointed a homemade gun at him (Kam) and told him to get out of the vehicle.
They drove away in his vehicle which was valued at K23,000, also taking his mobile phone and a substantial amount of money.
It was also alleged that on Aug 8, a report was brought in to the police by another complainant that his stolen vehicle was spotted at a premise at Turnoff, Bomana.
A raid of the premises by police led to the vehicle being retrieved along with that of Kam’s.
Three suspects were arrested at the location and taken for questioning.
They were charged with one count of armed robbery and one count of unlawful use of motor vehicle.
However, police prosecutor Sgt Joseph Sangam told the court that David was charged with two counts of armed robbery after he had been allegedly involved in other robberies which were still before the courts.
