A MAN who stole more than K23,000 worth of property from a shipping company in Lae was yesterday committed to stand trial in the National Court.
The district court heard that Desmond Jack, 39, from Oropot village in Siassi, Morobe, committed the offence last Sept 18.
Police reports presented in court said Jack committed the offence because of frustration with Tewassi Shipping Ltd’s management at the time.
It was reported that Jack stole a shipping chart valued at K15,000, three computers valued at K2799 each and a shipping radio – all worth K23,397.
Magistrate Jeremiah Singomat ruled against Jack’s submission to have the case dismissed.
He told him that there was enough evidences to substantiate a trial in the National Court.
Singomat told Jack to report to National Court registry fortnightly until his first appearance on May 7.
Meanwhile, the growing number of settlements in Lae have become hiding places for criminals, Singomat said.
He said one of the most problem settlements was Banana Block which is very close to town.
