THE father of a student electrocuted at the PNG Polytechnic Institute in Lae wants the case investigated properly and those responsible to pay compensation.

Jason Eyal, a first year Diploma in Business student was electrocuted in the campus, killing him instantly last month.

Michael Eyal claimed that the loss of his son was the result of negligence from the institute’s administration and the contractor engaged to perform the connection.

“If it was not Jason, then any student could have been the sacrificial lamb of prolonged students’ protests over inadequate facilities and equipment, because Jason’s death occurred a week after the students’ grievances,” Eyal said.

Meanwhile, PNG Power said they had no knowledge of the job carried out by the contractor.

It said the electrical connection work carried out was sub-standard and the job was left incomplete without final checks and was not signed out by a certified electrician.

Last Sunday, institution director Graham Bidang said investigations would verify the cause of death.

He said decision to negotiate compensation was beyond his jurisdiction.

Eyal said parents expected their children to be safe and secure in the perimeters of the institution.
