Manager wounded in daylight robbery

THE manager of a car accessory company in Kokopo, East New Britain suffered knife injuries to one of his hands and was rushed to Vunapope Hospital after an attempted robbery by three men yesterday.
According to salesman Boas Matmat, the incident occurred at 1pm.
The suspects drove in pretending to be customers and they passed security personnel at the main gate.
One of the men remained in the car while three went into the office, masked and armed with a pistol and two bush knives.
One of the suspects held Matmat and his female colleague at gunpoint in the front office while the other two went into the manager’s office and held him up with bush knives, demanding for the keys to the draw and chopped one of his hands.
Matmat said they then forced him and the female worker to go into the manager’s office and lie on the floor with the manager as they searched the draws.
He said the suspects were not successful in taking cash from the front office as they had done banking on Tuesday but he was not sure if the manager had kept some cash in his draw and if the suspects had taken money from the office.
