CIVIL Aviation Minister Alfred Manase has commended the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (Casa) non its eighth year as a State agency responsible for the regulation of the civil aviation sector.
Manase praised authority director Wilson Sagati and the staff for their work.
“We must perform our functions to the best of our ability and ensure that all civil aviation systems are safe for everyone to travel and enjoy the benefits of the industry,” he said.
Sagati said the authority was implementing its corporate plan (2016-20).
He said this could be demonstrated by the PNG Human Resource Institute, for the second successive year, acknowledging Casa PNG during the Best Public Sector Employer awards event.
“The importance of the civil aviation sector in PNG cannot be understated,” he said.
“While networks expand and demand at all levels continues to grow, Casa PNG must work with industry stakeholders to ensure it can sustain a regulatory model that meets international obligations and delivers safety and security outcomes.”
Sagati said it was a great challenge and required the industry to be innovative and to maintain a clear focus on continuous improvement through growth, enhanced business systems and the professional development of its staff.
He said the Australian Government had contributed towards the authority’s maturity as a regulator.
“This is evidenced in both the strengthening of the inter-agency relationship and the practical demonstration of PNG’s improvement through the recent International Civil Aviation Organisation.”
