Mangos’ case ruling next week
The National, Wednesday February 10th, 2016
A COMMITTAL court is expected to make a ruling next week on whether to commit to trial the case involving PNG Power Limited executive director John Mangos who facing charges of misappropriation and obtaining money by false pretence.
Mangos’ lawyer Greg Shephard made a submission on the sufficiency of evidence before Magistrate Cosmas Bidar last Thursday.
Shephard said there was no evidence provided by police to substantiate the allegations against Mangos.
He argued that there was no evidence of his client giving or obtaining any cheque and that the two charges be dismissed.
Police prosecutor Polon Koniu made no objection to the submission and relied on evidence provided by the police.
Mangos was alleged to have dishonestly applied to his own use and use of others, K30,000 belonging to PPL between April 23 and Aug 24 last year.
He allegedly, with intent to defraud and obtained the money, paid it to the Labour and Industrial Relations Department over a notice of breach under the Employment of Non-Citizen Act.
The court will make the ruling on Feb 18.
