DAVID Manning has taken the role of acting police commissioner, replacing Francis Tokura.
While elevating Manning to the constabulary’s top job, the NEC-appointed NCD/Central commander ACP Donald Yamasombi as DCP Operations for three months.
Manning said Lae Metropolitan Supt Anthony Wagambie Jr would be transferred to Port Moresby to fill in the NCD/Central commander’s position until substantive appointments were made.
He said documents revoking Tokura’s appointment and his appointment as acting commissioner were served, putting to rest uncertainties.
Manning thanked Tokura for exercising common sense and maturity during the transition period, adding that Tokura was still a part of the top echelon of the constabulary in-charge of Bougainville police.
He said Tokura’s return to his role as Chief of the Bougainville Police was timely as the referendum was coming up.
Manning said he intended to revamp the constabulary and bring back accountability and good governance.
He said he would address senior officers next week when some of his intentions would be announced. Executives of the police union congratulated Manning on his appointment and pledged their support for the new management under his leadership.
They were present at head office.
