NATIONAL Pandemic Controller David Manning has warned organisers of the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League (NSL) to comply with measures put in place during the lockdown of Port Moresby over the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a letter to the NSL secretariat on Tuesday, Manning said the competition could resume during the lockdown, provided the measures were complied with.
Manning said Covid-19 transmission in the National Capital District (NCD) was increasing and it posed a threat to the rest of the country.
“Our effort now is to contain Covid-19 in NCD and stop it from spreading to other centres,” he said. The NSL board acknowledged Manning’s approval.
NSL chairman Benny Popoitai said he was grateful for the positive feedback.
“We are looking forward to resume our competition under strict conditions,” he said.
“Our plans and protocols are already in place. The competition will be played behind closed doors without spectators.
“But the games in Port Moresby will be live streamed for fans.”
