Manpower needed to carry out govt policy

MANPOWER is needed to implement the government policy on downstream (on-shore processing) of forest products, says Andrew Aopo of the PNG Forest Authority.
Aopo is the acting director of the field services directorate division.
Thirty students of the Timber and Forestry Training College in Lae received certificates after completing courses last Thursday.
“This college has to expand to accommodate government’s three main policies of downstream processing, banning of log exports, empowering landowners and provincial governments and small-medium enterprises and moving away from natural forest harvest to plantation,” Aopo said.
He said the college was the only one producing technical and industrial manpower in the country who will implement these policies.
