MANUS police are investigating reports about the death of a man allegedly shot by his uncle.
Manus Police Commander Chief Insp David Yapu said Daniel Casper 33, from Polondrau, was shot in his right thigh by his uncle during an argument.
Casper was transported by boat to Lorengau hospital but died at the hospital.
“Team of police CID with mobile squad 02 members have been deployed to the area where they have arrested the suspect as well as they confiscated the shot gun with the ammunitions,” Yapu said.
He said the suspect was charged with wilful murder and is in custody.
Meanwhile, police are keeping a close watch on refugees at all camp sites after an incident of an attempted suicide by a refugee from Somalia.
Yapu said the refugee poured petrol over himself and tried to set fire on himself when he was stopped by the Paladin security force guards.
He said police were currently making daily patrols at the different camp site locations to monitor the situations.
“Attempted suicide by the refugees is becoming a concern to the authorities in the province and police are keeping very close eye on all the refugees.”
