Manus police ready for busy weekend with sports, anniversary celebrations
MANUS police are anticipating a busy long weekend with sports adding to activities in the province.
Provincial police commander Chief Insp David Yapu said two national championships were being hosted – darts and touch.
Visitors should feel free because police would be on full alert, he said.
The championships will start today and end on Monday.
The flag-raising ceremony and parade will be on Monday at the Independence Oval at Lorengau town. Activities include a mock battle, string bands, garamut dances, a regional dancing group performing traditional dances and other creative dances as part of independence anniversary celebrations.
Yapu said because of the big events, police presence was important to make sure that people celebrated peacefully.
