MANUS  caused a major upset of the soccer tournament by defeating Bougainville 2-1 in the semi-finals yesterday at Telikom Park at Bisini.
Bougainville were hot favourites by taking out the number one spot in Pool D with wins over Madang, Sandaun and Enga.
Tournament director for soccer, Taku Niebo, last night said the semi-finals went smoothly after it was delayed for 20 minutes due to sit-in protest by Team Simbu.
Team Simbu have gone into the bad books of the PNG Games Council when their players were involved in all sorts of appeals in various sports at the PNG Games.
Also in netball, a senior Simbu netball player verbally assaulted a Madang player while there was minor schuffle during the volleyball matches and last night, the team management disputed the result of the 10,000m race.
Niebo said Team Simbu protested over the goals claiming the referee never consulted his linesman before making the decision.
In other men’s semi-finals, New Ireland beat Gulf 2-1, Central defeated  Madang 2-1, Manus bt Bougainville 2-1.
NCD and Morobe will play their game this morning before they take on New Ireland to determine the winners to challenge winners of Central and Manus in the afternoon.
In the women’s semi- finals, NCD with Port Moresby-based players in Deslyn Siniu, Miriam Lanta, Delilah Waive, Dorcas Salaiau proved too much for Central province girls.
Morobe were just lucky to beat former queens of soccer in the Highlands, Enga 1-0, West New Britain downed Southern Highlands 1-0.
However,  the match  between   Bougainville and   Madang was forced into penalty shoot-out to decide the winner.
Madang came out 3-1 winners in the end.
