Too many potholes making highway risky

THE Bulolo Highway in Morobe is in a deplorable state and needs to be fixed quickly, says a community leader.
Dan Nali, chairman of the Klinki PMV Association, said yesterday that the highway had not been maintained over the years.
Nali, whose group has more than 200 vehicles using the highway daily, said the bad road condition had resulted in accidents, costing lives and affecting business. He said the highway from Wau to Markham Bridge was riddled with huge potholes and some parts had been washed away by flooding.
“This is a national highway,” Nali said. “Wealth and resources from Bulolo have been transported out to build the country, but yet, this important infrastructure has been neglected.
“I call on the national Government to do a complete resealing of the highway from Markham Bridge all the way to Wau station.”
He said the highway served Bulolo, Menyamya and Huon Gulf.
Nali said major companies and institutions like Zenag Chicken, Morobe Mining Joint Venture, PNG Forest Products, Wafi-Golpu Mine, PNG Timber College and coffee farmers use the highway.
