Many still do not understand coronavirus, officer says

MANY Papua New Guineans still do not understand basic information on the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, despite the many awareness programmes conducted so far.
Alphonse Raiava, the National Capital District health authority (NCDHA) team leader for Moresby South, said awareness in communities was important to correct the misinformation circulating among the people.
A three-day awareness programme for community leaders in the National Capital District was funded by the World Vision and conducted by the NCDHA and the National Control Centre. “We are engaging the community leaders to do awareness in the communities,” Raiava said.
“During the training, we ensure that they understand the facts about the Covid-19.
“This includes the importance of getting the vaccine and taking heed of the control measures such as wearing masks, keeping physical distancing and sanitising hands regularly.
“They were also informed about the mobile Covid-19 vaccination sites and the dates for vaccination.”
Raiava said some of the leaders now understood better what the Covid-19 was about and wanted to be vaccinated as well.
“The important thing is to work together to fight misinformation in the communities,” he said.
Apart from Rita Flynn, people can go to Kaugere, Tokarara and 6-Mile to receive the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine.
