PRIME Minister James Marape says the Government is committed to fighting corruption “at the highest level.”
He told members of the business community and partners at a 45th Independence anniversary dinner in Port Moresby that the establishment of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) “has been on the radar for more than 15 years”.
“Our Government and past governments have talked about fighting corruption and we will deliver (ICAC) by November,” he said.
“We should have delivered it in the last session but there is some element in the law that we need to fix.”
He said “hard-earned money from businesses must be translated to good use serving our citizens in key sectors”.
He thanked the businesses and partners such as Australia, Japan, China, USA, New Zealand and the Philippines which continued to maintain their presence in the country.
“Whatever contributions you have given, I’m satisfied,” he said.
“The reforms we have put in place are steps fundament to the economy today and into the future.”
Marape said the judiciary had remained vibrant and independent securing “the safety of our democracy and the differences we have in a nation of divided tribes and many pursuits”. “Be assured you have a very competent and independent judiciary system.”
He said the country’s resources had been harvested in the past 45 years but not depleted.

  • Thank you PM.

We still have yet to see a politician jailed for corruption. We will believe when we see things start to happen.

    Actions speak louder than words.

  • Too much talking put it into action.
Let your actions speaks rather than your words.

    PAIRAP NATHING NATHING YA MASKI

  • I once asked a former prime minister of PNG to name the best politician he had seen since independence and he answered freely naming a popular one who had died over 20 years earlier.
When asked to name a corrupt politician his answer was ‘the current government is corrupt’.
He did not mention a single name despite me asking the same question in different forms.
I concluded that any government of the day is corrupt. We know a government consists of prime minister and his cabinet and backbenchers.
Furthermore it dawned on me those who live in glass houses can not throw rocks.

  • Robinson, Patience is the way to go forward, we should applaud the vision that is there for the good of the Nation,
where there is a vision, there is always a provision..this is how the world we live in is structured, if you don’t believe then take it for granted………

  • Every government first policies after taking over as the government of the day is fighting corruption and basic services.
Its been 45 years with same old shit. when are we gonna stop talking and start prosecute those responsible from the highest ranking officials down to every government department and those private sectors involved.

And stop using Gods name in vain.
