Marape Govt failed again

Letters

SINCE the Marape-led Government released its statement of achievement last week coinciding with their second anniversary in power, there was no commentary from the public – social media commentators, think tank and others that make up the fourth estate – either to thank or critique Prime Minster James Marape’s leadership.
The country went completely silent as if taken off guard.
The reason was simply because the lift-out brochure didn’t provide the country what it expected.
The people who would become rich, blacked and christened in 10 years wanted to see a road map of where this most ludicrous and preposterous journey would begin and how it would end.
In a nutshell, the country expected a progressive report of the Government’s achievement tied to a doable strategic focus when embarking on this journey.
What most expected was a snapshot of a coherent plan that properly translated the ambitious goals into functional programmes – key result areas and key performance indicators.
In such volatile times – credit crunch and the Covid-19 pandemic – the country has to eliminate what isn’t necessary and identify economic activities that would stimulate economic growth.
Papua New Guinea needs to determine how to unlock capacity – budget, resources, innovation and technology – to execute these programmes.
Sadly, the brochure presented a microcosm of a disjoint and rudimentary plan.
It’s merely beautiful pictures collected around the country and stringed with colourful words.
Most of these work in pictures were started by the previous government.
For instance; the Kagua-Erave road is widely known that was constructed under former prime minister Peter O’Neill.
It could have been named O’Neill Highway.
The work put together to create the brochure is very pathetic, even the expensive gloss paper doesn’t resonate quality.
The word on the corridors of Waigani is that the contract to publish the brochure was rushed through against expert opinion and sound advice at the behest of a powerful handler, thus, affecting the quality.
The Marape-led Government has failed again.
