PRIME Minister James Marape on Friday launched the 2020 annual operational plans for government departments and state agencies.
The launch coincided with the annual public service dedication service at the Sir John Guise Stadium which was attended by ministers, department heads and chief executive officers of statutory organisations, and public servants.
Marape challenged the public servants to deliver what they had planned in the annual operation plans for the year.
“By the end of this year, if you do not achieve what you have planned, then you might as well resign,” he said.
“Success or failure of our country up till today has been the aggregate of the contributions of politicians and public servants since 1975.
“Because we are the lot consuming over 60 per cent of our country’s money available since 1975,” he said.
Marape called on public servants to work with his government to eliminate complacency, corruption, inefficiency and ineffectiveness in the system.
“I have claimed success and productivity, not complacency and corruption.
“I will stand and I really want for every one of you to stand with me to eliminate complacency, corruption, inefficiency and ineffectiveness in our system of government.
“There must be a sense of awakening, of consciousness, a sense of emotional attachment to our country for it has looked after our public service well so far.
“We stand at the beginning of the new decade that faces us.
“The future of this country is in our hands as public servants,” Marape said.
Marape launched more than 50 annual plans for Governmenrt departments and State agencies.
