LEADERS are trying to bring more developments into Hela, says Finance Minister James Marape.

Marape said the province has been producing oil and gas since 1990 but no tangible development has taken place.

Tari is to have a National Development Bank (NDB) soon and last weekend, Marape took a delegation from the bank to show them sites where the bank would stand.

NDB will submit a site plan to the Tari district and Hela provincial government for approval.

Marape said the only obstacle that stood in the way were law and order problems and he urged people to work together for peace. “Your role now is to look after law and order in Hela and we leaders will bring services to Hela.

Law and order problems are a hindrance to development,” he said.

Marape told his people that the Tari district would allocate K1 million as a bond security for those who were interested in engaging in business activities so they could borrow.

He said NDB would provide accessible development credit to the people to engage in income-generating activities to improve their quality of life and help women entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses.
