Marape outraged with cops over fight
The National, Monday October 21st, 2013
TARI-Pori MP James Marape has condemned police for starting a fight with soldiers in Tari over the weekend.
The incident happened after two Tari police officer in uniform were caught smuggling alcohol in a vehicle.
Police in Tari retaliated by attacking three soldiers causing a stand- off between members of the two disciplined forces.
Marape, while condemning the police officers implicated in the transporting alcohol into the province, called on both sides to respect each other as both had access to guns.
He said the police officers and soldiers must be investigated and disciplined.
He was disappointed by the incident after he had started to provide resources to support
Tari police maintain law and order including weapons and three vehicles from the joint district planning and budget priorities committee.
“I had asked the policemen to uphold law and order and committed my leadership to strengthen the work
of police and the justice and law sector,” he said.
