TARI-Pori MP James Marape plans to “light up” the district as a 40th Independence anniversary gift to the people.

He said this last Friday after launching rural electrification in areas near Tari town. “Prime Minister Peter O’Neill is working with PNG LNG project to ensure that gas from Hides supplies electricity to Hela.

“I have already discussed with Porgera Joint Venture about supplying four megawatts of electricity for Tari town’s use, which is more than sufficient for the need of Hela.”

The five local level government presidents in Tari-Pori, including Mayor Ken Arawi attended the launching.

Marape said there was an electricity grid extension on the Tebi local level government, with local company Mbale Contractors, putting up 15km of power lines.
