Marape plans to improve standards of free education
PRIME Minister James Marape, says improving standards and quality will be part of his government’s continuation of the free education policy.
For the past seven years, the previous Government has allocated K600 million into free education in the country.
Marape said Education Minister Joseph Yopyyopy is now tasked to make sure free education policy works well.
“If we can inject quality right at the elementary schools and that quality will cascade all the way to the top.”
He told Yopyyopy: “You have a mammoth task. Do not talk about free education but talk about free and quality education right from the start.”
Marape called on the department staff to provide Yopyyopy the support so that the Government policies are realised and that the children received better and quality education.
Similarly, the prime minister said Government would also continue with the free Health policy but would look at specialist health care and basic health care.
“When a mother goes to the hospitals, she must be assured that there will be a trained specialist doctors there to serve her. Similarly, when a mother goes to the hospital, she must be assured that there would be drug available to help her,” he said.
