PRIME Minister James Marape, whose election in Parliament 18 months ago has been declared valid and constitutional by the Supreme Court, is confident more will join the 53 MPs on his side.
He also called on the nation to remain calm as all eyes are again awaiting the Supreme Court ruling on another case regarding the legality of a sitting of Parliament on Nov 17, after it had already been adjourned four days earlier to Dec 1.
Marape joined his Government MPs camp at a resort outside Port Moresby while Opposition Leader Belden Namah and his side returned from their Vanimo camp in West Sepik to Port Moresby yesterday in a chartered aircraft.
“The Government has 53 MPs with more to join soon. The Opposition keeps on claiming that we don’t have the majority,” Marape said.
He said some MPs who had crossed to the Opposition on Nov 13 were rethinking their decision and wanted to return to his team.
“Many MPs were caught by surprise, off guard, with some locked up and flown to Vanimo where they have been kept captive for the last 15 days. Their conversation with us is very healthy,” he said.
A five-judge bench of the Supreme Court ruled last Friday that Marape’s election as PM in Parliament on May 30 last year was valid. It dismissed the case filed by Opposition Leader Belden Namah that Marape’s election failed to follow proper processes.
Marape said major political parties in Government were split, with some MPs having defected to the Opposition.
“These include the National Alliance, United Resource Party, Pangu Pati, People’s Party and smaller partners such as the Social Democratic Party, National Party, Triumph Heritage Empowerment Party, Allegiance Party, People’s Movement for Change, One Nation Party, People’s Progress Party and United Labour Party.
“Some (in the Opposition) have requested that their names be kept off the record until an appropriate time and I respect that. There are other political party leaders and individual MPs talking to us.
“I assure the nation that by the time Parliament reconvenes, there will be up to 65 MPs on our side.”

  • Amene Marape, Hela Opene istap Stand FIRM.
Show BN, PO and Barrick that Hela Opene does stands firm when going gets tough, and Tough gets going is in the bloods of Hela Sons.

  • The court will rule the decision of the speaker as constitutional. PM Marape will lead a minority govt till 2022.

  • It’s very exciting to see what is unfolding and also sad to see what we are going through as a sovereign nation when time is competing against us especially for MPs to really get many things done at their back yard before 2022 emerges.
lets hope that a good common sense prevails during this political impasse so a compromise is reached intuitively by individual MPs to decide what is the best decision to make comes next session that serves for only 12 months then 2022 comes.

  • Clearly I’m not from Hela but I can tell you that Marape is promoting locals while O’Neill and Namah is promoting foreigners into our country.
Taking equal share with our own resources, promoting SME, and giving equal share to all the provinces in Papua New guinea what is rightfully theirs… Think, rethink and stand for what is right. Don’t be like those greed leaders who don’t care for the people but only themselves.

  • God`s name being used too much for the people`s sake to hold on to power. How sad is our demoracy and sovernity being fiddled with.

  • Political instability will never heal. It’s the beginning and only Jesus will end it when He comes

  • The courts have made their decision.

Come on guys, the only people losing here is us – innocent citizens.

I would suggest that Namah and his team should target 2022 general election instead of wasting public money, and let the government continue with development agendas of this nation.

  • Political instability will worsen in Papua New Guinea.
Michael Kabuni, a lecturer with the political science department at the University of Papua New Guinea once stated on one of his publications on the DEVPOLOCYBLOG-Published on July 16,2018 and I quote;”Political instability is a symptom, not a cause, of the lack of development in PNG.

  • PM says, by the time parliament reconvenes, there will be 65 members on government side. That could be true….or it might be 65 members on the opposition side. There’s only one way to find out … it’s the final countdown!!!

  • Well said Okae. Cannot agree more. We need more constructive thinkers like you who speaks with mutual understanding and maturity. To the other commentators above, construct your comments in a manner that will educate other readers like me. We don’t want to read your petty comments that are baseless. Politics is much bigger than what we think nor assume. I am not for either side of the parliament, I am neutral and want to see both side delivering services to our people.

  • Honorable PM James Marape, with your current team CONGRATULATIONS. In the last 18 months you did what other’s where reluctant to do despite the Covid 19 pandemic. Papa God lukim lewa lon people blo em. He blessed us with immersed resources so after 44 years looking back we can say, yes we can do for better today and going forward. You and your team just did that with sacrifice. Yes With Papa God, Almighty Yahweh Nothing is impossible. God bless PNG

  • Lets take back PNG PMJM. We are happy with the vision been put forward for us the nation. Congratulations.

  • Well stated Okae, some very stupid people are stress too much about only this K10.2million being allocated for covid-19 vaccine research to be carry out and criticizes this current government of James Marape, try and think about the good work he has done by reclaiming back of some 40-50% our natural minerals from the greedy foreign investors who robed us for the last 40-45 years without and good benefit for us the resource owners, non of the previous prime ministers come out and fight for our rights and stand on behalf of us to do such agreement in the past.Rather they think of themselves by rebuilding their business empire and continue investing in other country and totally ignoring the very people whom they represent.I am not from Hela Province but I think as an educated elite and as patriotic feeling of our people I think James Marape is doing enough within this 18 months period. We can be able to make a very good judgement if he fail to deliver services when in this public office for one full term.

  • The numbers on Government Camp includes Speaker Job Pomat (MP Manus) who cannot be counted and Sir Mekere Morauta is sick and cannot Parliament so let’s count those two. That means that the Gov’t currently has 51 MPs in camp.

  • Leaders elected by people so they should and must listen to their people. After all its the people (country) will benefit. We want God fearing leaders. Leaders with dreams and vision for their country.

  • I personally support PM James Marape as a Christain leader whom can preach God in Public gatherings and shows great respect to the people whom the government represents in parliament. Why are the politicians moving here and there lukim for money to stand with .
Make clear stand for the best interest of these country and not money activities.

  • Good night PNG.This is what the Lord said.In my first vision I saw someone grabed chair from PO and it happened and JM took his chair.I my second vision PMJM was walking with one sided leg and is fulfilling now, becauae he is running the country with half of
the members of parliament. I have seen an other vision that BN put the neck tie on his neck but neck became too short and could not put on his neck.meaning that BN can not be the PM.In another vision I saw an old man put nect tie on PO which means sooner or later PO will come back to power.People of PNG,let me tell you all one thing.Everything that God spoke to me come to pass. What ever God speaks will come to pass we as a christains,we only pray that God’s will be done.Thank you and God bless PNG.

  • Mipla pilim pen inap.! Mipla still pray yet. God bai still step in on be half of PNG Christians. God loves you all! We patient and keep calm.

  • By the way, Where is PO?
The masterminder behind all this political saga. I think the decision by the Supreme Court got him real bad.
He was dreaming to become PM, devoting BN to take care of Vanimo Camp.
BN it’s time for you, to be independent so that PNG must see you as neutral. Right now we see you as a puppet, while PO is relaxing away pulling strings and you are dancing to his music.

  • Why are we crying (parliamentarians) I think that’s the leader we should have time for change and we follow the God’s will God choose leader will do a smart thing (dicision) PM. James Marape the simple leader

  • PM Hon. JM, the majority of PNGn are with you. Last VONC people say no to these bad apples, now they are trying to oust your seat but it won’t. People are watching your leadership, so many changes that you want to implement but because of such dirty politics with self-interest. No Opposition MPs are fit for the PM seat, we are praying that you HUMBLE HULI will retain your seat!

  • Enlightening an indisputability and truth is perpetually an exceptional means to live. Remember that all through history the way of truth has always be victorious. The truth is evermore something that is divulged, not something that is recognised. The truth always comes out, regardless of circumstances. Sometimes it just takes time and perseverance. Some people are so incompetent. Truth will always be truth, notwithstanding lack of discernment, incredulity and witlessness or ignorance. A lie can never subjugate a truth.

I urged the opposition to give the PM JM sufficient personal space so that he does not feel trapped or surrounded and free to run this nation. 2022 is just tomorrow, the intention to run for the PM seat when it comes the right time. Today is the time the opposition should work together with the government to help people live well and better. Put politics aside, thus people do not nominate you to argue and play self interest politics in the parliament. People don’t want to be spectators of rubbish and dirty politics. All they want is to spectate what you want to do for them not for yourself.

  • Opposition team are back in POM, just a few words especially to those who are still confused within your hearts as to which side of the house you will be aligning with, you are our mandated leaders. I want say politics of pasts has gone, we today’s generations are fed up of petty politics of buying votes with money, lamp flaps, beer etc..etc..we want to see honesty and transperancy in leadership, leaders who put God first, (not the type of leaders who comes in a sheep clothing but wolf inside), people second and country third in core of their hearts, just like the great leaders of other countries around the world, it’s pretty hard to find this type of leaders in png, I think PMJM is found to be one of those great leaders of the world who puts God first, people and the country in his heart and did really well the last 18 months, I believe he had a vision for us and this nation, to lead us into a greener pastures just like Sultan of Bruneo did to his people, from 18 years and above he made them to become a multi millionaires there is no poor people in Bruneo, every one is filty rich. So why not you all join PMJM and flow with vast majority of people who are with him and let him rule until 22 election. Osem tintin tasl mi tromoi kam, ol leaders yupla yet skelim. God bless Marape and PNG.

  • I think PMJM should remain as PM. He has shown credibility. He has hopes and aspirations to delivering services. If we are to judge him for not delivering promises, it’s a shallow hindsight. If we think someone is not giving us what he promised, let him dwell on that and he shall realise and materialise those for us. Leadership must mature too. A fruit does not taste sweet if it is forced to ripe, does it?

  • Special time God accomplishes special thing(s) with person capable to bring about. Requip nature resources to natives, JM is the man. Just like Moses to Israel, Mary and Saviour. JM. This is your time, make use of it.
