THE root source of learning must be right if teachers and students are to find real meaning in life, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and MP for Rabaul Dr Allan Marat says.
He made the comment last week while challenging teachers to always educate students in the right paths in life and not bad qualities that drove them from the right paths in life, during the opening of three double classrooms at the Malaguna Technical Secondary School (Maltech).
Marat challenged teachers to always remain beacons of hope for students so they learnt the right things about life and not the wrong things that would leave them unable to find jobs.
He said imparting knowledge and wisdom must be done within “the bounds of both the constitutional and statutory jurisdiction if development and progression is to take place in the province”.
Marat said the buildings would last and “will never be a waste of money, labour or time” while hundreds of students were trained and taught to take their place in society.
Encouraging them to always be alert and responsive to the educational needs of their students, Marat told the teachers to uphold upright and true values in their noble jobs as students not only learnt what was taught but from observing their environments.
As the only secondary technical school in the province, Maltech provides academic and technical training to students.
Before the 1994 volcanic eruptions, Rabaul district had three high schools – Rabaul, Boisen and Maltech – of which only Maltech is left after the other two schools were razed by fire.
Of the three classrooms, one was built by students as part of their technical training, while the other two were built by contractors.
While Marat announced new double classrooms to be built at Maltech, Volavolo and Tavui primary schools, Deputy Prime Minister Belden Namah has pledged to build a library at Maltech.
