The magistracy and judiciary do not seem to be interested in joining the fight against corruption among members of parliament and other leaders, Rabaul open MP Dr Allan Marat said.
Speaking during the renewal of the Malaguna United Church building in East New Britain early this month, Marat said: “The newness of government will only come from the heart of a member of parliament.
“Only Jesus Christ can provide this newness of government from the right condition of the human heart where our leaders have to be free from all forms of bribery and corruption so as to ensure parliament is truly free of all forms of deceitfulness.”
He also questioned whether the
new government was really a completely “new” or a renewed one with the same members.
“PNG does not have a choice.
“We will continue to have old members and new members of parliament,” he said.
Marat spoke about the recommendations for prosecution of those involved in the Julian Moti saga that was allegedly swept under the carpet.
He said although the commission of enquiry into the saga was completed and still awaiting tabling in parliament for debate, there had not been any prosecution yet.
Marat told the 500 people who gathered from Malaguna that the Cayman Islands deal, which mortgaged the future of the children, was never properly brought to a clear end and simply swept under the carpet without any prosecution.
