Marawaka in dire need of services

Letters

THE people of remote Marawaka, in Obura-Wonenara, Eastern Highlands, has continuously missed out on basic government services since 1975.
It is a large landmass with 34 council wards, with an approximate population of 20,000 – bordering Gulf, Morobe and Eastern Highlands.
The community only access basic goods and services by plane and a few by road from Menyamya, Morobe.
The Marawaka government station had been neglected and demolished by some leaders, giving silly excuses of hard terrain and mountainous area.
The district administration, political leaders and public servants did not collaborate, which resulted in miss management in office.
Obura-Wonenara district office is currently operating around the streets of Kainantu and Goroka where it shouldn’t be.
Marawaka has a district office which the local MP should renovate it and be the head quarter of Obura-Wonenara.
Due to political differences, the local MP is ignorant in delivering government services.
Health centres and aid posts are operating without medicines, mothers are face difficulties during labour and schools purchase less materials all because funds are drained by air freight charges.
We made it through our own without support from the local MP to sustain our community in terms school fees for tertiary students.
Marawaka is the least developed sub-district in the country with poor government services.
The Marawaka-Menyamya road is the only road the people use to reach Lae. The local MP should sign an agreement with Menyamya MP to upgrade the road to link.
