PARENTS and students who took part in Sunday’s “Walk Against School Fights” in Lae have hailed it a success.

Igam Primary School parents’ committee chairman Harold Siaoa said it was a big start for schools that took part in the peaceful protest.

Siaoa said it was a challenge to the public “that we do not have to sit back and wait to see changes but need to raise our voices and air our views to make changes for the betterment of our children, students and schools in Lae Urban and Morobe”.

“Churches and ministries in the city have been praying earnestly to see transformation across all secondary, primary schools and tertiary institutions and up to university,” he said

Theresa Kwalam, a mother of four, said the initiative was good awareness in helping stop school fights and cult groups in Morobe.

It is a major issue and affects so many children, she said.

She said the march should be encouraged every term and taken up by the Education Department.

“For the girls, most are affected by this school fighting and cult groupings where they participate and waste their time,” she said.
