WESTERN Highlands police believe a group of people is working together in Mt Hagen to smuggle marijuana by air.
This follows the seizure of 24kg of marijuana on Friday already packed and ready to be loadedon an Air Niugini flight.
Kagamuga police station commander Inspector Moses Kalandi said police received a tip-off on Thursday that marijuana would be sent with vegetables and other cargo on Friday. “Police went to the airport’s cargo section, and found the marijuana in a sealed box.
“Initial investigations revealed that this had been ongoing and we will get to the bottom of this and nab the culprits.
“The smugglers could also be conspiring with Air Niugini staff to send and receive such cargo.
“The receipt cargo has names of the sender and the receiver.
“The ground staff were not of any help for further information on the suspect,” he added.
