THE 13A market at Bumbu in Lae, Morobe, after ethnic clashes resulted in closures, hired a private security firm to ensure public safety, according to market manager Apu Delabu.
The market management put in place its bylaws to govern its operations.
“Hiring of the private security firm and the setting up of the bylaws are some steps that we think would help in making sure there is control,” Delabu said.
“We hope these would help ensure that disturbances experienced over the years do not happen again.”
After a recent clash at the market, the 13A market was closed indefinitely by Lae police. The market’s management was asked to come up with bylaws and security mechanisms before it resumed operations.
Delabu said the market management involved all communities surrounding the market in a meeting before coming up with security measures.
