EAST New Britain’s Kokopo market has resumed normal operations with vendors picking up their fresh produce for business.
The market was closed following chaos sparked by the killing of a BSP bank employee two weeks ago by three youths from Ulagunan village.
Market manager Darius Kunai said business activity was picking up with tight security operation measures put in place. “Following nominations for the Kokopo open electorate in the market area, security operations in the market were tightened for public safety,” he added.
“On Thursday and Friday, we saw a big turnout of vendors. Market revenue depends on vendors and that is our main collection,” he added.
Kunai said the market was deserted after the murder.
“We should not be blamed for the murder. The thugs were fully armed and the killing was all over in under two minutes,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kunai said the market authority had plans to either install Closed Circuit TV security cameras or fencing up the market.
