YANGORU-Saussia MP and Trade, Commerce and Industry Minister Richard Maru has assisted 46 University of Papua New Guinea students from his electorate to purchase airline tickets to return home over the weekend.
Vice male president of Yangoru-Saussia Students Association, Moses Yuaminei, on behalf of the students, thanked Maru and the Yangoru-Saussia District Development Authority for their support.
“I am thankful to our local member and Minister for Trade, Commerce and Industry Richard Maru for his support and for having the heart for his people,” Yuaminei said.
“The 46 of us, 12 females and 34 males, are all self-sponsored students. Students on HECAS have flown back home already.”
Yangoru-Saussia district is among others that have come to the aid of its students.
The return of these students follows a decision by the university council to close the university due to the unrest which led to the disruption of classes.
