YANGORU-Saussia MP Richard Maru has given K1 million to build a new road from Kusambuk to Chawia, in East Sepik.

Locals gathered at Kusambuk Primary School to meet Maru.

Women and children sang and performed a drama depicting their hardship.

People had to walk for days, carrying the sick on stretchers to health centres because there was no road, a villager said.

He said women, with the help of their husbands, carried crops from their gardens to sell at the market.

The road from Kusambuk to Chawia will connect Parina and Waramru villages.

Maru advised people in that area to avoid seeking compensation for crops or buildings that would be destroyed along the road. He asked them to help those carrying out the road construction and look after the machinery being used.

He thanked the Works Department for providing a new bridge for Bubuamu River, in West Yangoru.

Maru said that was a must before the Works Department could complete the Yangoru-Koboibus Road project in West Yangoru.

Roads in West Yangoru will be completed this year.

Maru said work would start in the Saussia and Numbo local level government areas next year.

“I have put in a request to the Government under next year’s budget to connect all the roads in the district to the whole of Sepik by next year.”
